ENGLISH:

Everybody who shat their pants listening to Sana Obruent’s incredibly dark and terrifying predecessor album “Dyatlov” must feel like being taken back to life from the dead listening to the opening track of the new album “August”, simply entitled “I”. It sounds like being pushed into an overwhelming stream of energy. A strong, wild river full of what life might have in store for you, full of all possibilities, all emotions at once, strangely positive on the surface, yet intimidating with its rumbling deep drones underneath.
It is a heavy album that Paul Lopez who is the sole member of Sana Obruent created. As if he wanted to imitate the sound of icebergs floating by or massive mountain ranges scraping the earth, it is intense Drone, bulldozer-like, heavy Drone that shakes the listener’s living room walls. This can best be felt in “II” which sounds like the field recording of a giant spaceship which is passing through an alien portal heading for planet earth with dubious intentions on their minds. (Are those noises of aliens dragging human bodies over the ground in the second part of the track?)
Paul Lopez creates all these soundscapes with his guitar only. Besides these moments of full-scale Drone you also find room for subtle melodies and occasional ghost choir-like elements (“III”) which carefully hints in the direction of
Shoegaze - the black hole kind. What is left from the pitch black horror of “Dyatlov”? Not too much, the feelings of being frozen (“IV) or being trapped in an icy mirror world (“V”) are unsettling but far from terrifying. “August” mostly focuses on the more vivid side of the Drone/Ambient genre which is perfectly executed in the closing “VI” when you feel like watching yourself swimming, then submerging, surfacing again, trying to locate the source of a strange sound which, in the end, is just everywhere.
With this new album Sana Obruent’s Drone is cracking up the sky and drowning you in an inescapable flood of liquid walls. And it sounds like witnessing the thoughts of many lives at the same time. Organic and overwhelming.

Jeder, der sich beim Hören des unheimlich düsteren und furchteinflößenden „Dyatlov“, dem letzten Album Sana Obruents, in die Hosen gemacht hat, wird sich beim Hören des Openers des neuen Albums „August“ fühlen, als wäre er von den Toten auferstanden, um wieder im Reich der warmen Körper zu existieren: Auf dem einfach als „I“ betitelten Track hört es sich an, als würde man direkt in einen überwältigenden Energiestrom geschubst. Ein kräftiger, wilder Fluss, der ausgefüllt ist mit allem, was das Leben zu bieten haben könnte: alle Möglichkeiten, alle Gefühle gleichzeitig, seltsam positiv anmutend auf der Oberfläche, aber einschüchternd mit seinen tiefen grollenden Drones darunter.
Es ist ein heavy Album, das Paul Lopez, das einzige Mitglied Sana Obruents, aufgenommen hat. Als wollte er den Klang eines vorbeischwimmenden Eisbergs imitieren oder das Kratzen von ganzen Gebirgsketten, die sich über die Erde schieben. Es ist intensiver Drone, Bulldozer-ähnlich, Heavy Drone, der die Wohnzimmerwände des Hörers zum Wackeln bringt. Am besten kann man das in „II“ beobachten. Wie die Feldaufnahme eines Raumschiffs, das durch ein außerirdisches Portal dringt und mit fragwürdigen Vorhaben Richtung Erde schwebt (sind das Geräusche von über den Boden gezogenen Menschen im zweiten Teil des Tracks?).
Paul Lopez erzeugt diese Soundscapes nur mit Gitarre. Und neben diesen Momenten des Drone-Vollausschlags findet sich auch Platz für subtile Melodien und vereinzelte geisterhafte Chor-ähnliche Elemente („III“), die vorsichtig in Richtung Shoegaze deuten – die Schwarze-Loch-Variante jedenfalls. Was bleibt übrig vom tiefschwarzen Horror „Dyatlovs“? Nicht viel. Die Gefühle, erfroren (“IV”) oder gefangen in einer Spiegelwelt (“V”) zu sein, sind beunruhigend, aber nicht Furcht einflößend.
“August” widmet sich viel mehr der lebendigen Seite des Drone/Ambient-Genres, was hervorragend im Abschluss („VI“) umgesetzt wird. Man fühlt sich, als schwämme man auf dem Ozean, tauchte dann hinab, stiege wieder hoch, um diesen seltsamen Klang auszumachen, der letzten Endes einfach überall ist.
Sana Obruents Drone reißt den Himmel auf und ertränkt den Hörer in einer unausweichlichen Flut an flüssigen Wänden. Und es klingt dabei, als wäre man Zeuge aller Gedanken einer ganzen Schar von Menschen - zeitgleich. Organisch und überwältigend.

This outermost, outerworldly feeling is being transported in a good way. Part 1 is good, but Part 2 indeed sounds like I would imagine The Lurker at the Threshold to feel, if he felt anything.
