“Randow is a podcast/audiobook about a small village located in the proximity of an inexplicable gap in space and time where a major European capital used to be. Ideal for a family weekend-getaway!“
The self-definition by the makers of Randow combines two important characteristics of the show: mystery and a rare form of humor which is well observed and morbid. David Lynch, Stephen King and H.P. Lovecraft might have served as role models. With the start of the third season in Fall 2017 Randow looks back on the second season in the form of its music.
The original soundtrack was scored by Vlimmer and serves as dark and deep, sometimes terrifying, in parts melancholic assistant for an uncanny story which is full of dubious characters and disturbing encounters in strange places.
Vlimmer made a soundtrack without a single vocal performance and without drums. It still sounds like Vlimmer but instead of playing Darkwave, Shoegaze, Kraut and Postpunk you get instrumental tracks and soundscapes dedicated to (Dark) Ambient, Drone and Electronica that take you on an 80 minute trip to an in between place of uncertainty, nostalgia and fear.

Die Selbstbeschreibung der Randow-Macher kombiniert bereits zwei entscheidende Merkmale der Show: Mystery und eine rare Form des Humors, gut beobachtet und morbide. David Lynch, Stephen King und H.P. Lovecraft mögen durchaus Vorbilder gewesen haben. Zum Start der dritten Staffel im Herbst 2017 schaut Randow noch einmal auf die letzte Staffel zurück – in Form seiner Musik.
Der Soundtrack wurde von Vlimmer komponiert und dient als düsterer und stimmungsvoller, manchmal Furcht erregender, in Teilen melancholischer Unterstützer einer unheimlichen Geschichte, die voller dubioser Personen und verstörender Zusammentreffen an seltsamen Orten ist.
Vlimmer hat einen Soundtrack ohne Stimme und Drums gemacht, klingt aber dennoch nach: Vlimmer. Statt auf Darkwave, Shoegaze, Kraut und Postpunk wird sich eben auf die sowieso vorhandenen (Dark) Ambient-, Drone- und Electronicbestandteile fokussiert, die den Hörer auf einen einnehmenden 80-minütigen Trip zu einen Zwischenort voller Unsicherheit, Nostalgie und Angst mitnehmen.

Yog-Sothoth. The thought of something lurking beyond time and space, seeing and knowing everything and all in existence at any given time, is deeply unsettling and yet fascinating. This outermost, outerworldly feeling is being transported in a good way. Part 1 is good, but Part 2 indeed sounds like I would imagine The Lurker at the Threshold to feel, if he felt anything.
