about

PRESS

"An impressively strong debut album" [...] "Ready To Drown" is like the music of the frost harbinger of cold winter days. - Less cryptic or less figuratively expressed: Verneblung is the amalgamation of electronic-punk-wave-pop-gothic-avant-garde. Verneblung is the vocal miracle Nadine Klein and the sound tinkerer Adnan Abbas. “Ready To Drown” is sometimes stoic, sometimes hypnotic, sometimes distant, sometimes dedicated, then again the debut sounds like escapism, like Dadaism." - ArtNoir (CH)

"The imaginery hybrid between The Human League and Goldfrapp. The sound of this band is not easy to define. There’s a strong 80s wink, which emerges from Dream-Pop and Dark/Electro-Wave influences. The global mood hanging over the work is also pretty dark and even desperate. But there’s also a more Trip-Pop approach injecting a modern touch to the work. The vocals have been sung in German and English. Nadin Klein’s timbre of voice has something sensual and bewitching. She for sure injects a true spirit in the sound of Verneblung. The sensual touch has been accentuated by the slow cadence of the rhythm. The main strength of this band is that they’ve developed a unique style, mixing 80s with contemporary influences." - Side-Line Magazine (BEL)

"Soundscapes by Adnan Abbas with deadly industrial elements but also an undefined, unexpected pop quality, characterized by the powerful German and English lyrics, beautifully wailed by Nadin Klein. [...] Sultry we let ourselves be dragged deep under water by Verneblung. A band that will be added to our live wish list. Hopeful despair and serene suffering. It is the sound of Verneblung." - Luminous Dash (BEL)

"Impresses as a debut with the clear and seemingly complete idea of what it sounds like to turn everything into fog. [...] Reduced synth surfaces of deadly beauty of an infinite ice desert, paired with Nadin's unique voice which hovers strangely above the composition. This detachment makes the singer seem like an ethereal being, like the voice of your own soul speaking to you. 'Sometimes I don't want to know, sometimes I know way too much' - world renunciation reduced to one sentence. [...] "'Free me from my feelings, so I can be me.' Only the complete desolation of the feelings completes the lyrical self - a sad thought, but rarely packed so aesthetically in notes." - Unter.Ton (GER)

"A real musical gem [...] [It] offer a rich universe between pop and industrial music. [...] Everything fits. Everything is perfectly measured and sober. This sobriety seems to define the subtle poetry of the duo’s musical universe. Adnan Abbas’ synthesizers weave the fabric of a sound world reminiscent of industrial music. These layers made of cold and moving textures temporize the sensuality of the voice. With equally stripped down, but terribly effective rhythms, Verneblung’s aesthetic hypnotizes with its slow, bass-heavy rhythms. The mixture of all these elements creates a rather surprising aesthetic." - El Garaje De Frank (SPA)

"Forge their own path [...] While I can compare the sound of Verneblung with some modern artists - such as Metric - the fact that this also feels like something from the 1990's really has it standing out to me, putting it into a genre all its own in the present tense. At times this feels like it could be off that "Romeo and Juliet" soundtrack, but there are also strong vibes of a lot of my go-to soundtrack comparisons in here, such as "Go", "Run Lola Run" and "The Crow" [...] It wouldn't surprise me to see Verneblung opening shows for Garbage but they don't sound exactly the same." - Raised By Cassettes (USA)

"Immediately inspired me [...] [Verneblung] deliver catchy choruses that stay in your head, with vocals that make you melt away, electronically organic beats, "relaxingly smooth" synthesizer sounds, throbbing bass and score-like wave hymns that are pushed by downtempo beats [...] German and English lyrics, a unique value, some kind of “Death Pop”. The aura of the tracks creates hopeful despair on the one hand, as well as pure serene suffering on the other [...] Recommended, especially in times of autumn and winter." - BLACK Online (GER)

"Sultry and hypnotic [...] The poignant and groovy “Ready To Drown” weaves magnetic pulsations of enveloping buzzing frequencies with terse muffled rhythms, punchy kicks and warm rising synth glows to form ominous swells of treacherous tides around the intense agonized and soulful radiance of the female vocalizations, releasing an intoxicating ebb and flow of breathless desperation into the slow-burn of tempestuous energies." - White Light / White Heat (ITA)

"A dream debut! [..] Despite the fact that these nebulizers operate best in the dark, they still know how to serve them in light. This is partly due to the clear yet dreamy vocals of Nadine. Sometimes the songs sneak into the night like a predator, at other times they move very carefully towards the dance floor. Several references from the past can be heard, but they beautifully manage to put them over their their contemporary sound as a layer." - De Subjectivisten (NL)

"Verneblung, once again, are something special from Blackjack Illuminist Records. They place their music behind a veil of new wave that wafts in an airy synthesizer downbeat. [Nadin] stoically drifts in the waves of the music singing her lyrics in German and in English. With his soundscapes, [Adnan] reveals a slight pop appeal. [...] Simmering dangerously subliminally, hopelessness and confidence creeps out at the same time - music for the cool and hot hours." - Streetclip (GER)

"Nadin's voice alone makes it a highlight of this year's releases!
It fits perfectly into the cool synthetic atmosphere of Adnan's Soundscapes! Absolutely consistent, congratulations on this very demanding auditory work!" - Flyflewradio (GER)

"This is slow careful and deeply troubling and in tune with the current state of the world in the last couple of years as we all crack and fall to pieces. [...] The tonal elements of what the synths are doing evoke the darkness, as the water envelops you, and in the middle of a summer with high figures for people drowning in the floods or wild water swimming this is timely, as the crystalline vocals evoke the smell of rotting flesh as it's pulled from the water. [It] feels very now." - Whisperin & Hollerin (UK)

"[M]oves between coldwave, downtempo and dark-electro, revealing indie/pop temptations [...], intriguing industrial veins (the nocturnal and sensual title-track and the concluding" Free Me "), suspended on the edge of the ethereal between cumbersome abrasions. [Verneblung] contains its own glacial charm, and the impression is that the German act has the potential to quickly make the right leap in quality, especially if it finds the courage to dare more and overcome certain barriers." - Darkroom Magazine (ITA)

"Imposing mid-tempo dark-minimal synth, with more than decent female vocals sung in German, and direct 80s electro influences. But is this all? No, the song’s most powerful characteristic is its twisted universe, the unaware listener gets sucked in from point zero, with no easy way out! Can you endure? Oh, sure you can!" - Last Day Deaf (GRE)

ENGLISH
Hailing from the rural surroundings of Cologne, Germany, Verneblung deliver a mixture of dark synth-drenched Wave hymns driven by bass-heavy Industrial downtempo beats.
The duo was founded in an attempt to pair the sound of the city's breakcore underground with the vocalist's love for Janis Joplin's and Jim Morisson's idea of Blues.
Their mixture results in unique and refreshing soundscapes with an unexpected pop appeal. Can we call it Death Pop? We can!
Sinister reverb-ladden synth basses and lamenting, yet powerful German and English lyrics create a sphere of hopeful desperation and serene suffering.
