Mind that the full title of the Chilean avantgardist Thanatoloop’s umpteenth album reads “Resilencia: resistencia y muerte en los dias del capitalismo voraz” (resistance and death in the age of capitalism). Its central concept is the contrast between the extreme egoism of capitalism and the sacrificial aspect of love. It may well be his first album in terms of traditional songwriting, it’s more direct, more melodical, more dynamic – which is remarkable given the fact that Michel Leroy Valdés has released more than 40 experimental albums since 1994.
The first half of “Resilencia”, and especially the title track, is an extraordinarily fuzzy experience with razor-sharp synths and atmospherical guitars, dark beats, and a spooky voice singing in Spanish. It’s about the death of love, detachment, abuse, capitalism; and its bleak layers of impenetrability create a claustrophobic environment. Valdés states: “We don`t have too much hope for a global change, but we can live in the cracks of the system, and we should learn to create micro worlds where the religion of money cannot rule.” From this hideout Thanatoloop dreams of creating a resistance that overwhelms people with happiness, turns them into generous and empathic folks - the opposite of capitalism. “I think love is the answer,” he states. Listen to the beautiful glockenspiel, the calming acoustic guitar and the melancholic voice of “Expresiones“ and agree with him.
“Resilencia” is a trip where the creator watches after you while you’re trying to maneuver through traps and holes in the darkness of our society.

Man beachte den Untertitel von Thanatoloops x-tem Album, „Resilencia: resistencia y muerte en los dias del capitalismo voraz” (Widerstand und Tod im Zeitalter des Kapitalismus). Es geht um zwei sich gegenüberstehende Themen: den extremen Egoismus des Kapitalismus und die aufopferungsvolle Qualität der Liebe. „Resilencia“ enthält Valdéz‘ bisher traditionellstes Songwriting, klingt es doch direkter, melodischer und dynamischer – was nach über 40 hauptsächlich experimentellen Alben seit 1994 durchaus bemerkenswert ist.
Die erste Hälfte des Albums, im Speziellen der Titeltrack, gestaltet sich als intensives Erlebnis mit atmosphärischen Gitarren, messerscharfen Synthesizern und einer verführerisch-unheimlichen spanischen Stimme, die den Tod der Liebe, das Loslösen und Misshandlung besingt. Die trostlosen Schichten der Undurchsichtigkeit kreieren dabei eine klaustrophobische Umwelt. „Wir haben keine allzu großen Hoffnungen auf einen globalen Wandel, aber wir können in den Rissen des Systems existieren. Wir sollten lernen, Mikrowelten zu erschaffen, in denen die Religion des Geldes nicht regieren kann.“ Aus diesem Versteck heraus träumt Thanatoloop von einem überwältigenden Widerstand, der die Menschen mit Zufriedenheit, Großzügigkeit und Empathie ausstattet – dem Gegenteil des Kapitalismus. „Ich denke, Liebe ist die Antwort“, sagt Valdés. Wenn man das bezaubernde Glockenspiel, die beruhigende Akustikgitarre und die melancholische Stimme in „Expresiones“ hört, muss man ihm zustimmen.
„Resilencia“ ist ein Trip, bei dem der Urheber seinen Hörer betreut, während er versucht, in Dunkelheit an den Fallen und Löchern unserer Gesellschaft vorbei zu manövrieren.

Rendre hommage au rock : un passage obligé pour tout groupe de drone ? Earth l'a fait avec Primitive and Deadly, Boris avec Heavy Rocks et, avec Dagdrøm, Nadja apporte aussi sa pierre à l'édifice. L'esthétique du duo allemand — confrontation entre guitares écrasantes bruitistes et atmosphères célestes — ne bouge pas d'un iota mais les riffs sont bien plus rentre-dedans et la présence d'un vrai batteur (qui a tout un arsenal percussif, tambourin inclus, à disposition) rend le rythme prenant !
