With their debut album, “BIAS”, released in 2018, WHOLE weren’t actually newcomers. Consisting of Alexander Leonard Donat and Thomas Schernikau the Berlin duo has been around for a couple of decades already, with Donat being a prolific and hyperactive chameleon constantly releasing albums and EPs with numerous projects, and Schernikau being a driving force behind Forced To Mode which have been called “world’s best Depeche Mode coverband”, constantly touring Europe. “BIAS” was a driven often electronical album, with a penchant for gloomy, sometimes enraptured, but always warm, atmospheric and engaging tracks and even pop songs (check "Lust/Terror"). Yet, it wasn’t until their live shows that the band began to understand what the essence of their sound would be. On the new EP, “Tongue To Machine”, they deliver alternate versions (recorded by WHOLE) and remixes (by remixers from Spain, Sweden, France, Germany). Here, songs like “Bombs Will Drop” and “Amsterdam” clearly have a more electronical layout and are closer to the band’s live performance, hence they are closer to what WHOLE are than everything before. The EP, however, is opened by the breath-taking cinemascope remix of “Tongue To Machine” by Spanish artist Mandelbrot. It being much more than “just a remix” will open WHOLE’s live shows, when this pandemic is under control.

Als ihr Debütalbum "BIAS" 2018 veröffentlicht wurde, waren WHOLE streng genommen schon keine Newcomer mehr. Das Berliner Duo, bestehend aus Alexander Leonard Donat und Thomas Schernikau, trägt die Erfahrung mehrerer Jahrzehnte mit sich. Donat ein produktives und hyperaktives Chamäleon, das ständig Alben und EPs mit zahlreichen Projekten veröffentlicht, und Schernikau eine treibende Kraft hinter Forced To Mode, die als "weltbeste Depeche-Mode-Coverband" bezeichnet werden und konstant durch Europa touren. "BIAS" war ein getriebenes, oft elektronisches Album mit einer Vorliebe für düstere, manchmal entzückte, aber immer warme, atmosphärische und einnehmende Songs und sogar Popmomente (siehe "Lust / Terror"). Doch erst bei ihren Live-Shows begann die Band zu verstehen, was die Essenz ihres Sounds sein würde. Auf der neuen EP „Tongue To Machine“ liefern sie nun alternative Versionen (aufgenommen von WHOLE) und Remixe (von Remixern aus Spanien, Schweden, Frankreich, Deutschland). Hier haben Songs wie "Bombs Will Drop" und "Amsterdam" eindeutig ein elektronischeres Outfit und sind näher an der Live-Performance der Band – und damit mehr WHOLE als alles zuvor. Die EP wird jedoch durch den atemberaubenden Cinemascope-Remix von „Tongue To Machine“ des spanischen Künstlers Mandelbrot eröffnet. Es ist viel mehr als nur ein Remix und wird, soviel sei verraten, die Live-Shows der Band eröffnen, wenn diese Pandemie unter Kontrolle ist.
