"It’s as eloquent and sparse as it is eerie and foreboding. [...] "The Wallowing (Die Another Time)" hums and aches like a funeral on an overcast day. Haunted organ and Donat’s illuminated vocals carry us through. It’s sparse, with touches of acoustic guitar. Anything more would be too much. Touches of Bauhaus and early Echo and the Bunnymen comes through, but really this is new sonic territory all around. Beautifully and achingly melancholy with touches of Gothic undertones."- Complex Distractions (USA)
"Rich, immersive, and ceremonial, “The Count” conjures comforting reverent deep reedy organ chords to rise powerfully, flowing through layers of obsessive and twinkling creeping guitar arpeggios, with vibrant, penetrating, stirring melodies, underlined by nervous tapping, clicking and warm light thudding percussions, whilst beautifully haunting choir-like vocals, both baritone and higher range, search for balance amid heavy doses of doubt, fear, and courageous determination." - White Light / White Heat (ITA)
"Genius of dark music" - Dark Music Life (BRA)
"Rich tracks which in some bizarre way also contain a certain pastoral austerity. [...] A.L. Donat is slightly different on this third Feverdreamt album." - Luminous Dash (BEL)
PRESS RELEASE
English:
Feverdreamt is a Berlin-based one-man project that started nine years ago with the idea to fuse Arabian melodies with krautrock using an invented language called “Terbansk”.
In 2015 Feverdreamt released the debut LP, "Terban Te Ban", creating thick clouds of dense desert fog. "An occidental fantasy of archaic beauty. [...] Far from reality." (Lie in the Sound [Ger]). In 2019, the 2nd album, "Melantant", followed, shifting the sound design to a post-apocalyptic and heavily synth-centered one: "In a field of tension between romantic hope and dystopian despair. The perfectly realized projection of an inner fantasy world into the hermetic sound world of an album. Unique." (RRRSoundZ [Ger]).
Now, on "Decay Is Present" Alexander Donat, again, is approaching things from a different point, soundwise, while still remaining the project's mystic aura. The album has a pastoral approach, offering dark ethereal folk music written on and with church organs. Complex Distractions (USA) calls it “baroque darkwave” and describes it as music that is, “as eloquent and sparse as it is eerie and foreboding.” That fits the overall topic, as the third album offers an introspective approach on the fleeting joys and the horrors of existence. First single, “The Count”, is a haunting piece of doom/folk, while minimal drums pound in the distance, the vocals echo. Second single, “The Wallowing (Die Another Time)”, starts out with soothing, ceremonial organs, while the second half climbs new highs with its motoric drums, slide guitars, and strumming acoustic guitars. It’s the record’s liveliest moment in an otherwise hurting environment.
Deutsch:

What a super album!
I am familiar with and really like the singer's own albums (James Harris - also on Bandcamp!) and bought this on the back of that.
Very different but still really excellent. To my ears, at least, had a very original 80s sound.
Highly recommend it either way. NeuroMage Mark
